Material

AISI D-2

A high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel recommended for tools requiring very high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness.

HARDENING:

Preheating Temperature: 1110-1290 ° F (650-750 ° C)

Austenitizing Temperature: 1810-1920 ° F (990-1050 ° C)

Protect the part against decarburization and oxidation during hardening. Choose the tempering temperature from the tempering graph. Temper twice with intermediate cooling to room temperature. Lowest temperature 360 ° F (180 ° C). Holding time at temperature minimum 2 hours. High temperature tempers are preferred when dimensional stability is of concern, if tools are to be coated, and/or EDM’d in hardened condition.

Available in 18” and 36” lengths.
